Want Cost Effective Medicine Remedies For Many Common Heath Conditions? Why Not Herbs and Vitamins?

The last time I went to my local doctor with a minor medical condition I was given a prescription that not only knocked my wallet for six but was a toxic chemical concoction. This is a very common event in these days of the quick fix. Well it left me wondering if I would be able to pay for the week’s groceries, let alone cure me.

A little investigation revealed that in many such cases you could get the same or even better results by using some vitamin supplements as well as some herds. These being natural often don’t have any side effects as many of the pharmaceutical products, ever read that little piece of paper inside the box? You can save hundreds of dollars over a period of time, in many cases, using herbs and vitamins instead. SO you can still afford to eat.

We must recognise that there are pharmaceutical drugs which in cases will do a better job, taking into consideration the nature of the condition. With all this in mind there are many cases where the use of vitamins and herbs is a better alternative to treat and correct common health conditions. Why not take a look, it’s well worth the effort.

Today’s modern science has a pharmaceutical remedy for just about every possible health condition. Natural remedies and nutrition or better known as alternative medicine is something not many of today’s Allopathic physicians are conversant with. It is this lack of knowledge that causes many doctors to steer us away from the less expensive natural remedies, many having been used for thousands of years treating and providing relief and correcting conditions from indigestion to menopause.

Here’s a few ways to look at putting herbs and vitamins to work for you and your family with safety and less expense.

From a holistic perspective of treating medical conditions, the naturopath is hard to counter with his alternative knowledge. Do you suffer from heart burn and or indigestion? Maybe it is caused by eating the wrong foods. Of course this problem may have its roots in a simple vitamin deficiency as the cause. The answer could be as simple as using some herbs in your cooking that have proven to counter indigestion.

Herbs such as scotch broom, turmeric and ginger tea have been used for the effective relief of indigestion and heartburn for many centuries.

Two of today’s most deadly medical problems, and cardiac problems can also benefit from the use of such herbs as garlic, rosemary and motherwort have demonstrated their ability to reduce LDL levels while boosting HDL levels. Rosemary is a proven tonic for the heart, as is Motherwort. Hawthorne berry also has a tonic effect on the entire cardiovascular system.

Want to improve your circulation; the use of cayenne pepper will assist this condition. Beta carotene and vitamin E, taken as supplements, or in foods, are of terrific benefit to heart patients. Often found in cold water fish, omega-3 supplements are great for heart protection against disease and lubricating the body’s joints. There are many other vitamins and herbs that help prevent and in some cases, can even reverse damage.

In today’s workforce, nervous tension and anxiety are becoming predominate health problems of this century. Passion flower, St. John’s wort, valerian and skullcap are all effective natural remedies. Try using some inexpensive vitamins and herbs before getting that expensive prescription filled. These are also helpful in treating these conditions, calcium and magnesium supplements in a balanced ratio.

Do you suffer from osteoarthritis; supplements using magnesium may bring considerable relief. Most Americans consume way too much calcium; this results in a magnesium deficiency, remember the ratio. As with heart conditions, Omega 3 supplements are good medicine for the osteoarthritis patient. Capsaicin cream, available in tubes at the health food shop, may be used topically for potent pain relief at affected sites. It works by reducing perception of pain, triggering endorphins, our brain’s natural response to pain.

So many common health disorders may be treated with great effect using simple herds and some vitamin supplements programs. You can get these programs by visiting and consulting a qualified naturopath, herbalist and nutritionist, this is a great first step for staying healthy. Low cost possible relief for your condition while stopping weight reduction in your wallet. Stay healthy, it’s cheaper in the long run.

Heath Ledger Case – Death by Prescription?

Recently I went to the theater to watch “The Dark Knight”. I was painfully reminded of the tragic and untimely death of Heath Ledger who played the role of the Joker. His brilliant performance immortalizes him on the screen but the senselessness of his death draws a deep sadness from within. My whole family first knew and admired Heath after we saw “A Knight’s Tale”. That film still remains the favorite of my three year old son who acquired an admiration of horses because of the thrilling joust scenes in the movie. Heath Ledger became a household name for us and that is why I was particularly affected by his passing.

I was then further disturbed upon hearing the news of his death being linked to prescription drugs. I thought to myself, “another life lost at the hands of the pharmaceutical industry”.

Ledger had developed difficulty sleeping as a result of his role as the Joker. The Sydney Morning Herald reported, “Ledger admitted his role as the Joker in the hit film The Dark Knight had made him feel so stressed he was unable to sleep. ‘Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,’ he said. ‘I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going,’ Ledger said”.

According to an online article of People magazine the New York City’s Chief Medical Examiner concluded that “Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxification by the combined effects of Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diazepem, Temazepam, Alprazolam, and Doxylamine”.

“Oxycodone is a painkiller, Hydrocodone is also known as Vicodin, Daizepam is commonly called Valium, Temazepam treats anxiety or sleeplessness, Alprazolam is knows as Xanax, and Doxylamine is a sedating antihistamine often used as a sleep aid.”

The article continues, “…the combination of the powerful drugs most likely caused a ‘poly-drug intoxification’ which led to respiratory arrest”.

As Heath Ledger slept his breathing most likely became slower and slower until finally stopping completely.

This didn’t have to happen. Unfortunately, drugs are so prevalent in our society that few people think twice before using them. Television commercials are full of legal drug pushers promising that their product will fix your erectile dysfunction, stop asthma symptoms, get rid of arthritis pain, manage diabetes, make you happy when your depressed, help you get a good night rest, and many other claims. Do you ever pay attention to the fast-spoken disclaimer at the end of the ad? The voice rambles off the long list of side effects and precautions. Many times “death” is listed as a possible side effect, and people actually buy this stuff.

The article in People magazine also adds, “…we are seeing more and more people dying of poly-drug intoxification from prescription drugs”.

Many people think that drugs are the answer to health problems but the fact is that they should only be used as a last resort in severe cases that can’t be fixed by natural means. It is wise to find a doctor that employs nutritional medicine to heal the body and uses drugs only on a limited basis for controlling a disease or disorder while helping the patient become healthy by providing the body with the necessary nutrition and exercises for optimal health. When drugs are no longer beneficial they should be immediately discontinued.

Wholesome foods and nutritional supplements have no side effects but rather they offer side benefits. You may increase wholesome foods in your diet and start exercising to lose weight and as a side benefit your depression may go away or your arthritis may decrease. Often drug therapies result in additional drugs being needed to counter the side effects of the first drug. It is a terrible cycle that ultimately leads to diminished happiness and the feeling of hopelessness.

Give your health and your future a chance. Do all you can to learn how to take control of your health. We all have only one life to live and we are not getting any younger so live life to the fullest, in happiness and health.
